Matt Groening’s Disenchantment gets first teaser trailer

Matt Groening’s Netflix animated series Disenchantment releases its first teaser trailer.

In the first teaser trailer for Matt Groening’s fantastical medieval comedy series, the narrator takes us on a journey from the future (Futurama) to the present (The Simpsons) all the way to the logical destination: the past.

Groening’s Disenchantment is simply the most logical step in his career’s progression.

The trailer brings forth a hooded figure for the King’s judgment. He passes cruel and superficial judgment indeed — “weak chin, buck teeth” — before the hooded figure is revealed to be the King’s daughter, Princess Bean (Abbi Jacobson).

More from Netflix

Disenchantment follows the adventures of the hard-drinking Princess, along with her faithful elf friend Elfo (Nat Faxon), and her personal demon Luci (Eric Andre) as they face threats in the crumbling kingdom of Dreamland.

“Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools,” reads the official synopsis.

The show stills make me more excited than the teaser, showing Bean and her friends wielding weapons, fighting off encroaching trees, and hanging out with a couple bottles.

Bean definitely doesn’t look like your stereotypical princess. You won’t see her wearing a frilly dress and a shiny tiara; instead, she wears men’s clothing similar to a Robin Hood costume. And she looks formidable and fierce.

The cast will also include Groening regulars like John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding, and Lucy Montgomery.

Next: 6 must watch Netflix originals coming in July

DiMaggio especially should fit into the fantastical Dreamland, having plenty of experience playing Jake the Dog on the animated fantasy series Adventure Time.

In fact, pretty much the whole voice cast has appeared on Adventure Time at one time or another. The ten-episode series will premiere on Netflix August 17.
